Farmer's Note
Though generations of my family were deeply rooted in traditions and customs of the tea industry, for the 50 years I have been with tea, I have always been seeking more creative ways to grow and present tea. White Heart is a phoenix rising from another failed attempt to recreate one of Volition Tea’s most iconic teas - Colorful Peony white tea. Mei Zhan’s fresh tea leaves were harvested and naturally sun dried per traditional white tea production procedure. When we realized mid-production that this batch’s flavor profile does not match Colorful Peony’s, we quickly pivoted in hope to salvage the harvest. In the heat of more than 100 days of drought, we took advantage of the significant sun exposure to fully oxidize the leaves. A red tea with a white tea’s core, we named this unique tea White Heart to commemorate its serendipitous production process.
